ANGLOGOLD WITHDRAWS MODIFIED HANDLING FEE ARRANGEMENTS

AngloGold announced today that it had withdrawn the modified handling fee
arrangements announced on Monday, 3 December regarding AngloGold's offer for
Normandy Mining.

The withdrawal of the arrangements comes in the light of an application made
by Newmont Mining Corporation to the Australian Takeovers Panel and

Normandy's deferral of its recommendation in relation to the increased
AngloGold offer for Normandy announced last Thursday.  A recommendation in
relation to the AngloGold offer is now not expected until next week.

AngloGold's original handling fee arrangements are not affected however, and
will continue to apply until the close of AngloGold's offer, scheduled for
27 December 2001.

Accordingly, a participating organisation of the ASX whose stamp appears on
the relevant Acceptance Form or who, in respect of a CHESS holding, provides
evidence satisfactory to AngloGold that it is the Controlling Participant
who has initiated the acceptance, will continue to be paid fees as follows:
(a) 0.75% of the consideration payable to accepting Normandy shareholders
(on the basis that one AngloGold share is valued at A$65); and

(b) 1.25% of amounts subscribed under the AngloGold top-up facility to a
maximum of $750 per acceptance form.

AngloGold's offer for Normandy is currently valued at $1.65 per share,
compared with Newmont's offer of $1.48 per share (which could increase by a
further $0.05 per share in the event of 90% acceptance of the offer), based
on the relevant closing share prices on the New York Stock Exchange
yesterday.
