Changes to the board of directors of Barclays Africa Group
Shareholders are informed that Mark Merson has been appointed to the Board of Barclays
Africa Group as a non-executive director, effective 1 January 2014. Mr Merson replaces
Robert Le Blanc as a representative of Barclays PLC. Mr Le Blanc is retiring as non-
executive director of Barclays Africa Group, effective 31 December 2013.
Mr Merson is the Barclays Business Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and CFO for Barclays
Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB). He joined Barclays in 2003 as Group Financial
Controller and during his career to date, has held positions as the Head of Investor Relations
(2005) and Financial Controller and CFO for UK and EMEA in the Investment Bank (2009)
before becoming global CFO for CIB at the end of 2011. Mr Merson is a graduate of the
University of Oxford, a chartered accountant and was previously a partner in the financial
services consulting practice of Deloitte.
Barclays Africa Group Chairman, Wendy Lucas-Bull, said: “I am very pleased to welcome
Mark to our Board, and look forward to his contribution, especially given his background and
wide ranging expertise”. She also paid tribute to Mr Le Blanc for his exemplary service to the
Board as well as the Group Risk and Capital Management Committee and Directors’ Affairs
Committee, since his appointment in 2007.
