With reference to the dividend announcement on 12 November 2001, we set out
below the exchange rates to be applied for payment of the dividend:
US$1 - R11,95 (ie dividend R3,11 per share)

US$1 - GBP0,6915 (ie dividend of 0,18 pence per share)

The relevant dates pertaining to the dividend are as follows:

Last day to trade cum dividend - Friday, 4 January 2002.

Date on which shares commence trading ex-dividend - Monday, 7 January 2002.
Currency election date or non-resident shareholders holding through South
African Nominee Companies - Friday, 4 January 2002.
Record dated - Friday, 11 January 2002.
Payment date - Monday 14 January 2002.

There will not be any de-materialisation nor re-materialisation of Sappi
Limited share certificates from 28 December 2001 to 11 January 2002, both
days inclusive.
