SEC DECLARES ANGLOGOLD'S REGISTRATION STATEMENT REGARDING OFFER TO NORMANDY
SHAREHOLDERS EFFECTIVE ON 8 NOVEMBER 2001

AngloGold announced today that on 8 November 2001 the United States

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)  declared effective AngloGold's
Form-4 Registration Statement (F4) setting out its offer to Normandy

shareholders located in the United States and Canada.

The final prospectus included in the F4 will be posted today

(9 November 2001) to holders of Normandy shares and ADSs located in the
United States and Canada.  Those resident in Canada will receive some
additional Canadian-specific disclosures.

Accordingly, with respect to US and Canadian Normandy shareholders, the
offer commences today.

AngloGold announced its intention to make an offer to acquire Normandy
Mining, Australia's largest gold company, on 5 September.  This is on the
basis of 2.15 AngloGold shares for every 100 Normandy shares.

The offer to Normandy shareholders, other than those located in the US and
Canada, opened on Tuesday, 6 November and the Bidder's Statement setting out
the details of the offer has been posted to them.  Consequently, the offer
to Normandy shareholders is now open in all jurisdictions.

AngloGold expects the Normandy Board to make its recommendation by the last
week of November.

Unless a decision is taken to extend the period, the AngloGold offer is
scheduled to close on 14 December.
