How can I customize my trading applet?
Customize your applet using the Desktop icon in your trading screen – from there go to configure.

Can I access the site and trade on public holidays?
The site is accessible 24 hours a day, every day, but you can only trade during the 'live' hours of your chosen market.

Will GT247 still make markets if their respective market feeds are down?
Whilst GT247 endeavourors at all times to make markets, they don't guarantee to do so if feeds are down.

How do I trade or close out any open positions if my Internet connection is down?
If your connection is down, call the GT247 trading desk to continue trading or to close out. For more information, see Trade by Phone procedures.

Is GT247 regulated?
GT247 is a member of SAFEX and intends to become a member of the Bond Exchange in the next six months. The Financial Services Board (FSB) does not currently regulate any Over The Counter (OTC) products, but is fully aware of the GT247 product offering.

Do I need previous trading experience to trade?
No. However, if you're a novice, whilst we'll give you certain tools and resources to assist you, trading CFDs is not recommended for less experienced traders. Please see our Risk Disclaimer for further information.

Is the price I see on GT247 the price I can trade at?
Global Trader publishes indicative prices in the Favourite Market screen of the trading application; the traded price will be visible in your Trade/Order screen. You can then request a LFPS to trade on.


What is a CFD?
A CFD (contract for differences) is a margin-traded instrument that exposes buyers to the change in value of an asset without having to purchase the underlying asset itself. A CFD can be traded on an equity, index, bond, commodity, or currency, and the only capital required to trade CFDs is the margin placement.

What is the maximum trade size I can transact with GT247?
The maximum trade size will be determined by the GT247 traders on an ad-hoc basis, depending on the amount in the margin account. However it’s likely that no trades will be turned away.

What is the minimum trade size I can transact with GT247?
The minimum trade size is buying/selling one contract at R1, 00 per point.

What other charges apply on CFD transactions?
No other charges – i.e. stamp duty or commission – apply.

What are the benefits of trading CFDs with GT247?
The benefits are various: you can use margin to leverage your investment; no commission or stamp-duty is charged; and the trade is executed immediately. See Unique Advantages for further information.

What does ‘initial margin requirement’ mean?
This is the initial amount deposited into a margin account when you enter into a trade, and varies for each product.

Can I short sell using a CFD?
Yes, which allows you to make a profit, even in a down-turn market.

Can I receive the asset by trading a CFD?
No - CFDs are contracts based on the underlying markets: however they are cash-settled, you don’t actually buy the asset, and so they don’t go to physical delivery.

Will I have to pay stamp duty?
You aren’t liable for stamp duty, handling or storage fees, as there is no physical delivery of the asset. Also, in South Africa, stamp duty does not apply to futures-related products.

How fast can you execute my trades?
Execution of trades is immediate – within 3-5 seconds.

Does GT247 assume all the risk itself?
No – we trade extensively in the underlying markets to hedge trades made by our clients. In this way our financial integrity is protected, and we guarantee our clients the return on their profitable investments. Because we operate on the same side, your gain is our gain, and your loss is our loss.

Can Sharenet or GT247 give me trading advice?
While we supply you with the education, information and tools to help you trade, we can’t advise you whether the particular market you wish to trade in is going to go up or down.

Does Sharenet or GT247 charge commission?
We don't charge commission or any other dealing fees – we make our profit from trading the spread between the bid and offer prices.

Who do I deal with at GT247?
You'll deal with one of our traders via the Internet or by phone.

Can I roll over a trade to a new date when I get near the closing date?
Yes – you can do this at any time before the closing date, but you must settle any loss on the trade that has been closed.


Are some trades denominated in US dollars or euros?
No – all the spreads are quoted in rands per point.

What if I discover a discrepancy in my statement?

What happens when I'm on holiday?
If you're going on holiday and have positions open, you'll need to keep in touch with us in order to make margin payments, if necessary.

How do I open a GT247 Trading or Call Account?

You can also Register to Trade, download the Trading Terms & Conditions from the site, print out and sign the last page (the Mandate and Notice of Acceptance Letter), and fax it to GT247 on +27 11 214-8028.

You will receive your Trust Account reference number as soon as this account has been opened. Please refer to Banking Procedure on this site for further details regarding the Trust Account.

Can I trade other products from the same account?
Yes – all GT247 products can be traded from the same account.

What is the minimum account size needed to trade a CFD on the site?
The initial minimum deposit to open a margin account is R500.

If I live outside South Africa, can I still open an account?
Yes – please contact us on +27 11 214-8000.

Am I eligible for a Credit Account?
Our policy is that all clients trade on a margin basis, although you can apply for initial use of your credit card to trade in the short-term. Please see our section on trading by Credit Card.

What are the tax implications of my profits?
You are responsible for your usual tax return.

How secure are my personal details?
Any information you supply to Sharenet or GT247, whether on forms you complete or through the website, as well as any information which GT247 has about you will, subject to terms and conditions, be treated by us as confidential. .
