Introducing....Sharenet Mobile
by Sharenet
July 2009

Besides offering monthly subscriptions for JSE data, Sharenet also offers a ‘pay-as-you-use’ option, where you can have information sent to your cell phone via SMS, anywhere in South Africa. Sharenet Mobile has been designed to give clients the most advanced set of features available using mobile phone technology.

How does it work?
You simply send an SMS to 34019 with your request, and Sharenet will reply with the information you require within a few seconds. An SMS costs R2 including VAT.

What information can I request?
You can request live share prices and set price alerts, as well as receive:

Major overseas indices
JSE indices
Metal prices
Forex rates
JSE trading statistics
Major moves on the JSE
Top volume on the JSE
Value leaders
Most active shares

Requesting live share prices
You can request the live prices of up to five shares by SMSing their share code or codes to 34019. Sharenet will send you the price as at the last close of market.

Requesting one share will give you more detailed information than if you request information for multiple shares.

Example sms sent:
SOL

Example Reply:
At 16:58:02 SASOL(SOL) Ruling price:24450 Move:-566 (-2.26 %)
Volume:3529660 Deals:1590 Open:24695 Bid:24450 Offer:24550
High:24790 Low:24200 Cautions: GT .News

When requesting multiple share prices, send a list of up to 5 share codes, separated by commas. In reply, Sharenet will send the price, move and percentage move for each share.

Example sms sent:
SOL,DDT,OML,ASA,J203

Example Reply:
SOL 24450 -566 (-2.26%) DDT 415 -3 (-0.72%) OML 1576 +12 (0.77%)
ASA 9120 +135 (1.50%) J203 16589.96 -104.11 (-0.62%)

It doesn’t matter whether you type in capitals or lower case. If you do not know the share code, you can send the short name or any part of the name. If the system finds a single match, it will return that share’s details, or otherwise a list of possible matches will be in the reply. Please be careful though: you will be charged a non-refundable R2 for each message you send our service by your network.

Setting price alerts
You can set an alert for when a share reaches a high or low price. As soon as the price goes above your high or falls below your low, Sharenet will send you an SMS to alert you. To set an alert, send an SMS with the message ALERT followed by the share code, the high price and the low price.

Example SMS sent:
ALERT ASA 8000 9100

Example Reply:
Your alert triggers for ABSA (ASA) have been added.

Example Trigger Reply:
Sharenet Alert: ABSA traded at 9100 on WEDNESDAY 2005/10/05 13:17:11

You are only charged for the SMS you send to request the alert. You are not charged for the message sent if your alert price is reached. Alerts expire once the high or low price you have set is reached and you have been notified.
